The Story Behind Evidence Informed Practice
Helping teachers and schools make meaningful use of their data, one conversation at a time.

I'm Sam Montanaro, and I've spent my career in education trying to answer one question: how do we help teachers use data in ways that actually matter?
That question took me from the classroom into data systems, analytics, and leadership, and eventually into my current role as Director of Evidence-Informed Learning at Ivanhoe Grammar School in Melbourne.
Along the way, I learned that most schools don't have a data problem. They have a culture problem. The numbers are there, but the confidence, the tools, and the professional learning to make sense of them often aren't.
That's why I built Evidence Informed Practice: to close that gap with resources, dashboards, and support designed by someone who lives this work every day.
Building a Culture of Evidence Informed Practice
A truly evidence informed culture rests on three pillars. Without any one of them, the picture is incomplete.
Data Access
Teachers and leaders need timely, meaningful access to data that matters. Not buried in spreadsheets or locked behind admin portals.
Data Capabilities
Access alone isn’t enough. Educators need the confidence and skills to interpret, question, and act on what the data is telling them.
Data Systems
Sustainable practice requires the right structures, processes, and tools to make data use efficient, consistent, and embedded in how a school operates.
